People of Rosscarbery- Sean and Betty O’Donovan of the Abbey Bar
13/04/2020 | People of RosscarberyIn our “People of Ross” feature for the coming few weeks we are delighted to start with Sean and Betty O’Donovan of the Abbey Bar.
We are always encouraging our guests to take a walk up town to experience Rosscarbery and to have a pint/drink. The 1st place they will come across is the wonderful Abbey Bar where they will be greeted like old friends. With regular live music and serving evening meals on a Sunday, Sean and Betty will welcome you into the community. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for their “Reeling in the Years”, who knows you may even see an old picture of yourself😉
Sitting outside the Abbey and watching the world go by and locals go about their daily business is the perfect way to relax. Sean is heavily involved in the wonderful rural Irish sport of Road Bowling, so any visitors who want to learn more be sure to ask Sean all about it.
When the funds of the business association were low and the Christmas lights needed replacing Sean and Betty’s daughter Sharon spearheaded a fundraising drive in the community to Light up Rosscarbery for Christmas.
Many wedding couples who come from further afield end up settling in one of the 3 great pubs of “Ross” for the day after. During their time with us one couple ended up stranded at the hotel after their tasting and came up to the Abbey Bar during the “Beast from the East” where they felt like old friends. So much so that a few months later they had their wedding afters with Sean and Betty!
Sean was also one of the Faces of Rosscarbery for Shay Hunston’s “People of the Wild Atlantic Way” exhibition that we sponsored for the hotels 20th Anniversary.
