People of Rosscarbery- Sadie Pearce & Mark Jennings
14/04/2020 | People of RosscarberyIn our second “People of Ross” post, we are delighted to introduce Sadie Pearce & Mark Jennings of the phenomenal PILGRIM'S Restaurant.
Pilgrim’s opened in 2015 at a time when, nationally, West Cork was well known for its phenomenal produce but maybe slightly less so for its restaurants. It now operates in a time where there have been 3 Michelin Star Restaurants in Kinsale/West Cork in the past 2 years. We firmly believe that Pilgrim’s brought that bar up when they opened for others to follow and they certainly put “Ross” on the culinary map.
People flock from all over Cork to dine with Sadie and Mark and we have guests that stay with us coming from afar and they come because of the quality of dining in Rosscarbery and the opportunity to sample Pilgrim’s.
When “Beyond the Menu” filmed for RTÉ Mark Moriarty chose Pilgrim’s as one of the restaurants and the show was truly enchanting, showcasing “Ross”, West Cork and the produce in the most amazing light. In their own words their “dishes are full of lip-smacking punchy flavours that are designed to share among the table. Bringing together (our favourite) tastes from the growers and wilds of West Cork”.
Without pretension, warm and relaxed service and Sadie’s contagious smile 😊 setting the atmosphere, you can even bring your drink from the pub across the road to finish as your pre-dinner drink💚 A great pal of ours from the USA who visits 2 or 3 times a year always makes sure he has a table booked prior to his trips to Ireland, you should do the same too.
Sadie and Mark recently acquired a polytunnel at home and grow some of their vegetables for the restaurant and have an extensive list of local suppliers, the menu changes with the availability of the produce and they regularly forage the boreens of Rosscarbery. One of the first on this trend in the area if not THE 1st and it is done out of pure passion for what they do.
Originally Pilgrim’s was a bookshop and then a successful cafe, in these difficult times Sadie and Mark are running a take-away “Pilgrim’s Pick-up & Provisions” with daily menu popped up on their Instagram page, be sure to support it and enjoy a truly unique takeaway experience👌 “Our new approach is to offer tasty, healthy local & delicious take-away food & ingrediants from our local producers”.
Pilgrim’s and Mark & Sadie are another magical reason to visit “Ross”.
