People of Rosscarbery- Rosscarbery Pitch And Putt Club
27/04/2020 | People of RosscarberyWell folks hopefully your week has started as well as possible😀 We have had a great couple of weeks focusing on the “People of Ross” and we still have many to do. Our next focus will be the amazing B&B owners that we are proud of and work closely with. We will post slightly less frequently from now to switch things up but will continue to feature scenery and wonderful things to do in Rosscarbery 👍
One such activity is the phenomenal Rosscarbery Pitch And Putt Club ! What a facility and surely 2 of the best Pitch and Putt courses out there as you can see. And a great challenge.
Rosscarbery Pitch and Putt Club was founded in 1982. The Cregane course was the first to be developed. The land totaling 17 and a half acres was rented from Cork Co. Council on the sand dunes at the Warren strand. When handed over to the club the place was a wilderness with Marran grasses and ferns growing up to 6 feet tall. As you can see from the photo it is now beautifully manicured! ⛳️
The course was designed by the late Mr Dalton, from Castletroy in Co.Limerick was assisted by Edward Fitzsimons also from Limerick, who happened to have Rosscarbery connections.
The greens were man made by a professional landscape gardener Mr Pat McCarthy from Glandore. The development was funded by selling 5-year memberships together with a large amount of voluntary labour, machinery and materials from members of Rosscarbery community.
As Membership grew steadily over the following years as did the number of tourists and holiday members, the need for a second course arose. Again the Cork Co.Council agreed an extension to the land originally leased, so the Channel Course was developed.
Today the club and courses are a very important part of life in Rosscarbery and beyond. The courses are ranked in the Top 10 courses in Ireland 🏌️♀️ 🏌🏻♂️
With a fantastic membership and an out of this world location this is a great community activity and thoroughly enjoyed by the many visitors to the area. It is such a relaxing pastime for anyone to enjoy, you could be anywhere in the world as you walk the dunes of the Warren.
Well done to the founders, designers, members & committee that have grown this amenity and made it the gem it is. It is also just great craic - the scene of many a titanic battle between Robin our Operations Manager & GM Neil Grant 🤣🤣 We’ll not discuss who wins.... 💚🇮🇪
