People of Rosscarbery - Margaret and Jim O’Connell
28/04/2020 | People of RosscarberyNext up in our “People of Ross” and one of our outstanding B&B’s, Bethel Guesthouse and Margaret and Jim O’Connell. Established in 1987 and with 10 Bedrooms Margaret and Jim run the business. It has a glorious outlook over Owenahincha Beach and is a short distance away from the hotel. “We just love meeting old and new guests all the time, we have four adult children and started with 5 bedrooms and have evolved over the years to 10”.
Always active and organising events, in 2000 Margaret organized the first 30th class reunion and we were delighted to host it at the Celtic Ross. What’s more the 50th class reunion on the 29th of February 2020 also happened at the hotel “we were treated like royalty by the Celtic Ross Hotel”, says Margaret. It was a lovely and fun event!
“That night the 29th of February was Ireland’s first confirmed Case of Coronavirus. We heard it during our meal”, says Margaret. My goodness that seems like a lifetime ago, life is very different now!
Margaret and Jim are regular visitors to the hotel, restaurants and public houses of Rosscarbery A lovely feature of our B&B owners is they regularly bring their guests to the town where they can enjoy a meal and a drink. Margaret & Jim drop people daily to town and on many an occasion Wedding guests staying at Bethel are dropped at the front door of the hotel by Jim for the drinks reception. On one occasion our GM Neil remembers Jim making 3 trips within a 30 minute period. Just priceless service! Members of the Rosscarbery Business Association and active community people, Margaret was crowned Carnival Queen of Ross in 1970 the same year as her leaving cert.
Always a pleasure to deal with, Lisa and the team at the Front Desk have a great relationship with Margaret and the team work enjoyed between Hotel and B&B’s to promote destination Rosscarbery and help each other is just brilliant. All our B&B’s are a tight group who regularly communicate and support each other too.
Margaret & Jim have been known to host celebrities too, though we will leave that one to the imagination as they wouldn’t let on themselves who…. On that thought we wish to thank Margaret and Jim for their amazing support of us and are delighted to showcase them as more wonderful “People of Ross”. Thanks guys and Stay Safe.
