People of Rosscarbery- Paul Melody
20/04/2020 | People of RosscarberyWell folks, we are into week 2 of the “People of Ross” and the featured business and person is Paul Melody of the Lagoon Activity Centre. If there is a phrase that sums up Paul it is one Fiona Calnan used - “go big or go home”! Paul is at the heart of, or close to, any “big” ideas going. Hence the wonderful floating Christmas Tree (pictured) on the Lagoon each year (Also lighting for the HSE “Shine your Light”), his involvement in Surf, Turf n Tar and the giant water park that featured on the Lagoon last summer. Ideas like these put Rosscarbery front and centre - Paul is a guy who gets things done! 🙌
The Lagoon Activity Centre is one of many attractions that make Rosscarbery the family hub that it is, in our mind one of the premier destinations in Ireland, for families with kids of all ages. At the Lagoon you can hire pedal boats, kayak’s, do Stand-up Paddle boarding (SUP) or the famous floating water park. These activities span all ages from 4/5 up to big kids of 35 years and up and many are great for a family with young kids. The lagoon is an average of 3ft deep as well, so a safe environment to learn and practice many water based skills. On many occasions the age of the “kids” on the Water Park is significantly higher than you’d expect!! 🤣
In the community Paul is well liked and as affable as they come, always a positive demeanour and not easily ruffled. He strives for a challenge and when the floating Christmas tree was 1st erected it proved a challenge but it wouldn’t be a challenge Paul would shirk. Despite wild weather 💨 hampering the 1st Christmas, the tree continued to light and with it the mood of the people of Rosscarbery. Paul is a massive part of the Surf Turf n Tar team who launched this epic event. Not content with a half marathon over roads, fields and beaches “Pontoon Paul” had to have the runners walking/running on water too!! (By the latter stages of that grueling race it could have been walking!)
The hotel and the community see a massive knock on from these activities and the involvement Paul has in the town; whether day trippers, families of holiday makers or school tours the Lagoon delivers a great boost to the image and economy of Ross. Thank you Paul 💚🇮🇪
