People of Rosscarbery- Gail Butler and her trusted boss/sidekick Holly
21/04/2020 | People of RosscarberySo far we have featured pubs, restaurants, a pharmacy, craft store, beauty therapist and outdoor activities as our featured businesses. To further highlight the incredible diversity of businesses in our “People of Ross”, today we showcase The Old Barracks Rosscarbery self-catering accommodation on the Square and Gail Butler and her trusted boss/sidekick Holly the Dog!🤣🐶 Holly for the record is certainly the most photographed dog in Rosscarbery, if not Ireland and is the mascot of the Old Barracks.
Gail also operates the Old Library and the Sergeants Cottage in Ross and took them over 5 years ago when the Barracks was needing serious renovations. Gail took this on with her father Tim O’Sullivan and they were restored lovingly into the wonderful accommodation they are today. Gail’s ethos for the accommodation is that they are a “home away from home”, my goodness they are just that. A close friend of ours was on holiday in Rosscarbery last summer and dined with us and stayed in the Old Barracks and her kids LOVED the Old Barracks, so much so that the overseas holidays were already off the agenda with the real decision makers long before Covid-19 took hold.
Gail’s father also used to own “Murphy’s Bar” prior to its new identity as O’Brien’s so they have been in the fabric of Ross hospitality for many years. The Old Barracks also host very large parties for holiday guests and hen parties. They get to experience a stay in a historical building as The Old Barracks is a listed building and was once the local Garda Station. “We are Failte Ireland approved which we are delighted with and very proud of after all the hard work. We are super pet friendly and promote @dogfriendlywestcork with the help of our mascot Holly” says Gail.
From the perspective of us in the hotel, Gail is super approachable and always open to collaboration, most recently through her support of the amazing Little Blue Heroes project, and a pleasure to have as a neighbour.
A real family business, you will see everyone drafted in on change over day, great community people and great promoters of Rosscarbery through their excellent Social Media channels, Gail and Alec (and Holly) are greater “People (and dogs) of Ross”. Well done and thanks guys!
