West Cork Sports Star Awards

This is the 27^th Year of the West Cork Sports Star Awards! Every year we are amazed by the outstanding sports people we meet. We are delighted to have the opportunity to recognise their achievements and dedication throughout the year.

Nominations for the Senior monthly awards, the Paudie Palmer Youth Award and Hall of Fame Award for the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star 2024 can be sent to Sports Star Awards, Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery, West Cork or email info@celticross.com. The Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star Awards are run in conjunction with The Southern Star and C103 Cork since 1998. Every month a sports person who has excelled in their chosen field is presented with the monthly Sports Star Award. At the end of the year, usually in January, a Gala Banquet with Special Guests is held where the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star Annual Award winner is announced.

The Paudie Palmer Youth Award is awarded on a quarterly basis to young people aged 14 – 18. Those eligible must be born in the years 2006 to 2010 inclusive and evidence of birth must be provided. The overall 2024 youth award winner for the year will be chosen from the quarterly winners and will be announced in December 2024. The annual youth winner will be formally presented with the award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

The Hall of Fame Award will be presented to a sports person in recognition of his or her past achievements which usually pre-dates the start of the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star award in March 1998. Certain exceptions will be made to these rules if the adjudicators deem appropriate. The winner of this award will be announced at the end of the year and will be formally presented with the award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

The Sports Club of the Year and Team of the Year are presented to a Club and a Team recognising their achievements in sport during 2024. These are two separate awards. The winner of these awards will be announced in the winter and they will be formally presented with their award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

If a sports person or team has excelled to such a level during the year they may be awarded a Special Achievement Award. This is when the individual or team do not fall into one of the other award categories yet their sporting achievements are worthy of recognition. This is at the discretion of the adjudicators.

The 2024 Annual Awards Banquet with guest speaker will take place in January 2025. The overall winner for 2024 will be announced on the night. Tickets will available from end December 2024 by calling the Hotel on (023) 88 48722.
